Here’s why HDR, not 4K, is the most important upgrade for your next TV

“4K” is the latest buzzword with TVs.
Most advertising would have you think that 4K is akin to the leap we made from standard to high-definition TVs, but that’s not totally true.
Instead, when you’re buying your next TV, there’s another feature you should be more focused on: HDR.

iOS 13.1.2 now available as Apple continues polishing iOS 13 at rapid pace

Apple is continuing to update iOS 13 at a breakneck pace. On Friday, the company pushed out iOS 13.1.1 with a few bug fixes — and iOS 13.1 had only just launched on September 24th. Fast-forward to today, and Apple is already rolling out iOS 13.1.2 and iPadOS 13.1.2. It’s getting a little hard to keep these things straight.

The newest update addresses a handful of issues impacting iCloud backups, the camera (“fixes an issue where camera may not work”), flashlight, Bluetooth, and the HomePod. It also patches up an unusual bug that “could result in a loss of display calibration data.” You wouldn’t want that happening to your new iPhone 11 Pro display, now would you?

You should be able to find the latest iOS and iPadOS update now by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. These rapid-fire bug fixes are a key benefit of Apple’s control over both iPhone / iPad hardware and software. It’s unfortunate that iOS 13 shipped with some of these issues for that customers have encountered, but Apple is wasting no time in addressing them.

Apple, Google, and Netflix don’t require employees to have 4-year degrees, and this could soon become an industry norm

Students assume getting a four-year degree — and taking on the thousands of dollars of student-loan debt that comes along with it — is the only way to get your foot in the door at top companies such as Apple, Google, and Netflix.
But that isn’t always true.
Prominent business leaders such as Siemens USA CEO Barbara Humpton and Apple CEO Tim Cook are already questioning the need for four-year degrees altogether. Cook recently saidthat about half of Apple’s US employment last year included people who did not have four-year degrees. Cook reasoned that many colleges do not teach the skills business leaders need most in their workforce, such as coding.

Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro launch is proof that the smartphone industry is going through a massive change

When Apple executives took the stage at the Steve Jobs Theater at the company’s campus in California on Tuesday, they spent a lot of time demonstrating how powerful the next iPhone’s camera is.

Apple not only provided a deep dive into the technical specifications — as it usually does during iPhone launches — of the iPhone 11 Pro’s new triple-lens camera system, but spent a significant portion of the presentation showing how the camera is advanced enough to be used by professional cinematographers in new ways.

Sean Baker, a filmmaker, was brought on stage to discuss how he used the iPhone 11 Pro’s triple-lens camera with the Filmic app to shoot through multiple lenses simultaneously. The company also showed a short film by the director Diego Contreras and the filmmaker Guillermo Garza to flaunt the iPhone 11 Pro’s video-recording prowess.

Apple releases fix for iOS 13’s battery drain and Siri issues

Apple is still racing to fix iOS bugs days after the release of its latest iPhones. The tech giant has released an iOS 13.1.1 update (plus a corresponding iPadOS 13.1.1 version) that tackles a number of glaring problems. The most notable is a fix for a battery drain issue plaguing users across the board, but there’s also a solution for Siri’s problems recognizing requests on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. This addresses issues with restoring your device from a backup, too, so you won’t want to skip this if you’re interested in safeguarding your data.
